SMP Scalp

Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP) is medical grade non-surgical procedure used as a remedy for thinning hair, receding hairline, and baldness by of depositing pigment (colour) into the upper dermal layer of the skin on the scalp, as it allows the replication of hair follicles in the scalp, which may be a few hundred to thousands of pigmented ink dots. The procedure is also called a hair tattoo. This treatment gives the appearance of a recently shaved head.  To mitigate the appearance issues arising due to semi or permanent baldness, case of receding hairline, the thinning hair, or balding horseshoe pattern. The procedure matches the colour of the skin with the colour of the pigment. Also, the process works well for pale and dark-toned skins and caters to almost every type of hair in terms of colour or density.

While the person performing such a procedure needs to be adequately trained and skilled, the person undergoing the process needs to carry realistic and appropriate expectations regarding the procedure. Moreover, it can be performed on both genders. Studies show around 70% of men to suffer from hair loss by the age of 70. For women, the percentage is around 78% for the age of 70. Science tells us that around 110,000 hair follicles exist on the average human head. However, there may be an occurrence of hair loss or hair thinning due to several hormonal changes, psychological trauma, hereditary factors, illnesses or diseases, medications and medical treatments. This may lead to situations of self-esteem.

The procedure known as scalp micro pigmentation allows such people an opportunity to get a natural appearance of hair follicles without undergoing treatments such as hair transplants, as it effectively improves the appearance of baldheads by imitating the appearance of shaved hair. The process is done in 2 to 3 outpatient sessions that last a couple of hours and done in a month. The duration of the session depends upon the size of the treatment area needing pigmentation. A follow up may be required more than once in some instances.
